CLEARLENS is an experimental platform that uses artificial intelligence for peer review assistance. By using this service, you acknowledge that AI-generated reviews may contain errors, inaccuracies, or limitations. Use this platform at your own risk.

1Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CLEARLENS Journal House ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use our services. We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time without prior notice.

2Experimental Nature of Service

CLEARLENS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL PLATFORM.

  • The platform is in active development and may contain bugs, errors, or unexpected behavior
  • Features may change, be removed, or become unavailable without notice
  • We make no guarantees about uptime, reliability, or data preservation
  • You use this platform entirely at your own risk

3AI-Assisted Review Disclosure

This platform uses artificial intelligence extensively.

By submitting a manuscript, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Your manuscript will be processed by AI systems (including third-party AI providers)
  • AI-generated reviews may contain errors, hallucinations, or inaccuracies
  • AI recommendations are advisory only and do not constitute professional peer review
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI output
  • Your content may be used to improve AI systems (anonymized where possible)

4AI Training Data & Opt-Out

You have control over how your data is used for AI training.

What We Use

With your consent, we may use your anonymized and de-identified submission content to improve our AI review systems. This includes:

  • Manuscript text (with author identifying information removed)
  • Abstract and keywords
  • Review outcomes (anonymized)

What We Never Use

  • Author names, emails, or personal identifiers
  • Institutional affiliations
  • Unpublished or rejected manuscripts (unless explicitly consented)

How to Opt Out

During submission, you can uncheck the "AI Training Consent" checkbox in the Declarations step. If you've already submitted:

  • Go to your Author Portal → Submissions
  • Select the submission you want to modify
  • Update your AI Training Consent preference

Note: Opting out does not affect manuscripts already used in training before your opt-out. Future training runs will exclude your opted-out submissions.

5Author Responsibilities

By submitting a manuscript, authors represent and warrant that:

  • The work is original and has not been published elsewhere
  • All co-authors have approved the submission
  • Proper attribution has been given to all sources
  • All ethical guidelines have been followed
  • Any conflicts of interest have been disclosed

6Intellectual Property

Authors retain copyright of their work. By submitting to CLEARLENS, authors grant us a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and archive the work under Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) licensing.

7Disclaimer of Warranties

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • - IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY
  • - FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
  • - NON-INFRINGEMENT
  • - ACCURACY OR RELIABILITY OF AI-GENERATED CONTENT
  • - UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE SERVICE

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE PLATFORM WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR THAT ANY ERRORS WILL BE CORRECTED.

8Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CLEARLENS AND ITS OPERATORS, AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, PARTNERS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY:

  • - INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES
  • - LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES
  • - DAMAGES RESULTING FROM AI-GENERATED REVIEWS OR RECOMMENDATIONS
  • - DAMAGES ARISING FROM MANUSCRIPT REJECTION OR PUBLICATION DECISIONS
  • - DAMAGES FROM UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO YOUR SUBMISSIONS
  • - DAMAGES FROM PLATFORM ERRORS, BUGS, OR DOWNTIME

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US (IF ANY) IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

9Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CLEARLENS and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the platform, your submissions, or your violation of these terms.

10Publication Ethics

We reserve the right to reject submissions, retract published articles, and ban users who violate ethical standards or engage in misconduct.

11Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time without prior notice. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. It is your responsibility to review these terms periodically.

12Governing Law & Disputes

These terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration. You waive any right to participate in class action lawsuits.
